I do not have a dog, but my family included dogs from the time I was a young child until I was in my early-twenties.

It pains me to write this, but after watching many of Cesar Millan’s shows and reading a few of his books, I realize that I did not know how to properly train or communicate with the dogs I loved so much.

Until I am ready to make the commitment to have a dog again, I will continue to watch Cesar Millan’s shows and read his books/blog… in the name of research, of course.

I was inspired to write this blog post after watching Season 1, episode 7 (titled “Philadelphia Freedom”) of Cesar Millan’s Dog Nation because of the Throw Away Dogs Project.

Today is International Women’s Day! I was inspired to create a video; you can check it out here.

This year’s theme is Press For Progress (#PressForProgress), which is to continue to progress gender parity.

I hope that all of us take a moment to reflect and recognize the contributions  that women have made to advance society throughout history, and to celebrate the wonderful women in our own lives. This, however, represents the “softer side” of the day.

Women- we’re just getting started…

World Wildlife Day is a UN initiative observed on March 3rd since 2013. This year’s theme is “Big Cats- Predators Under Threat.” These beautiful animals need to be protected. According to the World Wildlife Day website,

Big cats are among the most widely recognized and admired animals across the globe. However, today these charismatic predators are facing many and varied threats, which are mostly caused by human activities. Overall, their populations are declining at a disturbing rate due to loss of habitat and prey, conflicts with people, poaching and illegal trade. For example, tiger populations plummeted by 95% over the past 100 years and African lion populations dropped by 40% in just 20 years. But a range of measures are underway to arrest this decline.

For the love of books & libraries (#DrSeuss)

Dr. Seuss quote, books and libraries

Today is Dr. Seuss’s birthday. As such, I started thinking about the importance of literacy, and the very important role that books continue to play in my life.

A bona fide bookworm as a young kid, I loved all of The Baby-Sitters Club books by Ann M. Martin; Goosebumps by R.L. Stine and Animorphs by K.A. Applegate and Michael Grant were among my other favourites.

As a young child (toddler/maybe younger to six or seven years old), my mom (and other family members) read to/with me every night. Frankly, I can’t imagine growing up without these experiences.

My Body, My Rules

Donald Trump: “I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything… Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.” (Transcript, New York Times)

Well, that ends that, I thought (very naively). Upon reviewing this interview, I assumed that then Republican candidate, Donald Trump, would never be President of the United States of America. (I was wrong, obviously. We all know what happened…)
